The job

Here at PepsiCo, we have a 12 month student placement opportunity in our Research & Development team based in Leicester.

We're looking for someone to get stuck in and help out on productivity projects, working with our snacks products. These projects will include helping us to optimise our current recipes and production processes and delivering significant cost savings without compromising our much-loved taste and perfect quality.

You'll have lots of autonomy where your decisions will really make a difference to our business and in return you'll have the chance to develop your skills and experience in a fast paced, energetic environment.

What you'll get up to

  • Support project managers with the evaluation, development and qualification of productivity ideas across multiple snack platforms.
  • Work with product insights and analytical teams to measure product attributes, and share the results and interpretation with the project team.
  • Manage the storage and shipment of samples around the business worldwide.
  • Carrying out sensory analysis of trial prototypes.
  • Carrying out; lab work, pilot scale and factory trials, and reporting back the results and conclusions to the team.
  • Arranging product testing programmes.
  • Potential opportunity for travel UK and Europe wide.

What we are looking for

  • Undergraduate student, following path to a degree level qualification in Food Science/Technology
  • High degree of initiative and drive to deliver results of trials and activities with the ability to be pro-active and multi-task
  • Passion for creativity and innovation in culinary / product/process development
  • Keen to gain experience of working in the Food Industry
  • Good interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate to a diverse audience
  • High degree of self-motivation combined with good organisational skills
  • Supportive team player with an accurate, methodical, tidy and reliable approach
  • Good communication, verbal and written
  • Computer literate (Microsoft Office)
  • Full UK driving license.

What else do you need to know

  • The closing date for applications is 29th October 2015.
  • This paid student placement will start in July 2016, and will last for 12 months.
  • The salary will be £16,000.

Please note - It is a requirement that the placement student will be able to participate in tasting sessions on a regular basis (often daily), which will include tasting products which may contain ingredients which may not be suitable for people with known food allergies.
